"If Bella and the other people had been able to go to South Africa, and then seen different people, they would have said what I have been saying about them. These people are mistreated. But what the government wants to do is keep this under the carpet. Nobody should know anything about this. I think that’s the structure. That’s why if you come into this country as a foreigner, on behalf of the San community, you have done something wrong, if an organisation talks about people here, you should not do that, you become number 1 enemy of my country. My question has always been. What’s is it that is hidden behind these people whose government doesn’t want people to know about? In the late 90’s, was when the government started putting pressure on to us to move and the first thing out because they know that, is water because it is a useful thing for us to use. So they take the water out and the water was used as a pulling factor to remove us from our ancestral land. That’s how many people ended up moving into the resettlement camps.
In 2006, the Supreme court of Botswana said that the San community on Central Kalahari Game Reserve was lawfully and constitutionally occupying that land. So when we went back the government still used the water as a tool. But still by now people in CKGR haven’t got water but come to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve you go to lodges which are run by some of the politicians, you’ll go to the mines, diamond mines, they have got water. Swimming pools, they’ve got a lot. But you have small groups of people which are the owners of the land who don’t have water to drink.
It’s genocide. It’s trying to get rid of the San community."

« Si Bella et les autres avaient pu aller en Afrique du Sud ils auraient rencontrer toutes sortes de personnes et ils auraient bien dit la même chose que moi. Qu’ils sont maltraités. Alors ce que veut le gouvernement c’est de garder ça sous le tapis. C’est ça le système. C’est pour ça que si vous venez ici en tant qu’étrangers, que vous parlez au nom de la communauté San, vous êtes en tort. Ou si votre organisation internationale parle des Sans d’ici vous n’en avez pas le droit, vous devenez l’ennemi numéro 1 de mon pays. Alors ma question est : « Que veulent-ils cacher en ce qui concerne ce peuple, qu’est ce que gouvernement ne veut pas que on sache.» »
« À la fin des années quatre vingt dix le gouvernement a commencé à nous mettre la pression pour nous expulser de notre terre et ils savent bien que l’eau est importante. Alors ils ont utilisée l’eau comme un outil, ils nous l’ont supprimée pour nous pousser à quitter notre terre ancestrale. C’est comme ça qu’il y a beaucoup de personnes qui ont été installées dans des camps de regroupement. En 2006 nous avons gagné à la Cour suprême du Botswana le droit de retourner sur notre terre ancestrale. Ils stipulaient que c’était bien la terre de la communauté San qui l’occupait légalement. Mais là encore le gouvernement a utilisé l’eau contre nous. Mais encore aujourd’hui les personnes de la Réserve Centrale du Kalahari n’ont pas d’eau. Pourtant il y a des lodges tenus par certains des politiciens, il y a des mines de diamants qui utilisent l’eau, avec des piscines ils en ont beaucoup. Et pourtant il y a autour des petites poches de personnes qui sont là sur leur terre et qui n'ont pas d'eau à boire.
